New administration could change space transportation program

The future of space travel could change as President-elect Obama leaves his own mark on NASA.  A NASA transition team working with Obama has sent a sizable survey to the agency regarding the space shuttles replacements, the Ares 1 rocket and the Crew Exploration Vehicle.

During President-elect Obama’s campaign he said that he would give NASA an extra $2 billion in order minimize the amount of time between the retirement of the shuttle and the new CEV comes into service.  The transition team asked questions about reducing the scope of the CEV and also what kind of cost savings could be generated if the Ares I was cancelled altogether.
