Art by Astronaut Alan Bean on Display
Alan Bean is the astronaut that will forever be remembered as the fourth man to walk on the moon. What is lesser known is that Bean left NASA after 18 years of service and decided to focus on art instead. While training to be an astronaut Bean had taken art classes in his spare time. He decided that the best way he could share his experiences as an astronaut with the world was through art.
Alan Bean’s artwork depicts his time with NASA and the pieces actually incorporate various pieces of equipment from the Apollo 12 mission and even moon dust.
The public can see Alan Bean’s work on display in an exhibit called “To the Moon: The American Space Program in the 1960s” located at the University of Texas in the LBJ Library and Museum.
