Good News for the Phoenix Mars Mission
Several months ago on May 25 the Phoenix Mars Lander made its way onto the surface of Mars. Since beginning its experiments on the surface, Phoenix has proved that water ice is present on the planet. After the announcement was made in July NASA chose to extend Phoenix’s mission on the surface until the end of September.
As October is rapidly approaching NASA has just extended the life of the Phoenix mission once again through December. This second extension is expected to cost 6 million dollars in addition to the 422 million that has already been invested into the project. Phoenix is currently trying to determine if the conditions on Mars could support microbial life.
